These scores come from our automated constitutional evaluator.

Each score is generated by an automated evaluator that applies our published methodology, and every score links to the specific evidence behind it. Some older evaluations were imported from our previous systemA portion of evaluations were carried over from the scoring system we used before the current automated evaluator. These keep a lower confidence label until the evaluator reviews them directly. and carry lower confidence by design. Individual row banners add more detail on a per-evaluation basis. How we calculate this.

Constitutional Drift Over Time

Most of what the government does is routine. This page surfaces the small number of actions that seriously break the founding rules, and how that tail has moved — by year, by kind of action, and across administrations, Congresses, and branches. Every figure is derived from the same scored corpus, held to the same standard for everyone. How we calculate this.

Color mode:·

We've scored 12,235 government actions. 111 were serious violations — high-impact and clearly against the founding principles. The rest score routine or minor — not severe violations. Most of what government does is ordinary; these charts show the small, serious tail and how it has moved.

Routine volume vs. the serious tail

Two honest measures, not one misleading axis: how many actions were scored each year, and what share of them seriously broke the rules. A year is only flagged as an outlier once it has enough scored actions to be reliable.

By institution

Administrations, Congresses, and branches are different kinds of thing — a Congress spans parts of two administrations, and a branch is not a time period at all. So each gets its own panel with its own honest labels. The panels share one vertical scale so the bar heights compare fairly, but they are never forced onto a single mixed axis. The same standard applies to every one.
